Diabetes Australia, in collaboration with the Australian Centre for Accelerating Diabetes Innovation (ACADI), is launching a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming the landscape of diabetes research across Australia. The Australian Diabetes Clinical Trial Network (ADCTN) will enhance clinical trial activity, ensuring new treatments are effective, safe, and beneficial to people living with diabetes.
Clinical trials play a crucial role in advancing medical knowledge by testing the effectiveness of new treatments and identifying potential risks. The ADCTN seeks to bolster this effort by providing diabetes researchers with expert peer reviews and feedback from individuals with lived experience, strengthening clinical trial protocols and research proposals. The network’s goal is to facilitate local and international clinical trials in Australia, ultimately improving treatment outcomes for the millions affected by diabetes.
The ADCTN recognizes that both professional expertise and personal lived experience are essential in crafting treatments that truly benefit people with diabetes. As part of this initiative, the network invites individuals with both clinical insights and firsthand experience of diabetes to contribute their voices to help shape the future of diabetes care.
The ADCTN is currently recruiting new members for its Executive Committee and Reviewer Panel to provide essential guidance and evaluation for upcoming trials.
Open Positions:
1. Executive Committee Member
The Executive Committee will be responsible for steering the ADCTN’s operations, offering scientific leadership, strategic direction, and fostering peer engagement. The committee will consist of both diabetes patients and experienced clinical trial researchers.
2. Reviewer Panellist
The Reviewer Panel will be called upon as needed to provide specialized expertise in various areas of diabetes research. Panel members will include both people living with diabetes and researchers with extensive clinical trial experience.
To acknowledge their contributions, the ADCTN will issue an annual certificate to all who participate in the review process.
This initiative marks an important step in ensuring that diabetes research is informed by both clinical knowledge and the perspectives of those directly affected by the condition.
